Message

In John 3:16-17 "God's Great Gift" to the world is highlighted for its focus on our salvation. However, this gift has implications beyond our salvation as individuals! During this Christmas season, many folks simply focus on the "traditions" we "usually" celebrate this time of the year. Traditions help us remember. Traditions assist us with sharing important dates, times, events, processes, and the like with emerging generations. Traditions are important to our well-roundedness and important to the transmission of our culture from one generation to another! Traditions are warranted. However, traditions must not replace nor displace the truths they are intended and purposed to keep alive!

Today, too many celebrate "the traditions of X-mas" without realizing that they are leaving "Christ" out of Christmas! John 3:16-17 serve as the signal truth that anchors the celebration of Christ's BIRTH! We give gifts because God's SON-Jesus, was given gifts at HIS birth. We are emulating the ETERNAL ONE by giving unselfishly to and giving without seeking reciprocity. This miraculous birth in no mere tradition repeated and rehearsed without in-depth meaning and mission! This birth is much more than that!

Jesus was GIVEN to us, the world, with the divine purpose of our individual and collective salvation! He was given for you and for me! We dare not push that truth and purpose from the forefront! We dare not minimize our need for forgiveness of sins! We dare not dismiss the divine purpose for the birth of our Messiah, our Savior! God knew our sinful state. God knows our shortcomings. Furthermore, God knows what is in store for the future. With such wonderful knowledge that is too much beyond our comprehension and capabilities, God sent His Son to save us!

Finally, God's Great Gift enters our lives to infect us with God's love! Infections typically insert themselves into our bodies uninvited. However, the infection of the love of God must be invited by every individual! We must ask God to enter our lives through HIS Son! God does not intrude, but HE must be invited by each heart! Once infected by this agape` love, this unconditional love, each disciple is divinely directed to disciple others. In other words, infect someone else with the Great Gift of God! Infect someone else with a love that looks beyond our frailties, faults, and fractures! In this Christmas season, don't lose sight of reason for the season 'called' Christmas! On that note, MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
